Roberto Yanez is a telecom professional and wireless technology strategist with 25+ years of experience shaping RAN architecture, spectrum policy, and cross-sector innovation. He advises operators, vendors, utilities, industries, and government agencies on RAN technology and emerging use cases, delivering measurable business impact.
As Chief Technology Officer of Origami Networks, Roberto defines the company’s technical vision, oversees consulting delivery and product development, and drives the technology roadmap. He researches and integrates emerging architectures, authors whitepapers to establish thought leadership, manages IP strategy, supports business development with technical guidance, and leads consulting engagements from architecture design to proof-of-concept execution.
Roberto has led enterprise-wide spectrum initiatives, influenced national policy through FCC and NTIA engagement, and guided investment decisions across low-, mid-, and mmWave bands. His expertise in RAN architecture and AI/ML-driven network optimization has advanced 5G, validated long-range mmWave performance, and expanded broadband access in underserved markets.
At UScellular, he pioneered the company’s fixed wireless technical strategy, architecting solutions across CBRS, C-Band, and mmWave spectrum. A record-setting mmWave trial with Qualcomm, Ericsson, and Nokia delivered near-gigabit speeds over 10 km—reshaping industry expectations for long-range FWA and supporting broadband equity initiatives.
As a Senior Distinguished Member of Technical Staff, Roberto led Open RAN trials, RIC application strategy, and regulatory filings that shaped national strategy funding frameworks. He has represented industry interests in 3GPP, O-RAN Alliance, GSMA, ATIS, CTIA, and the National Spectrum Consortium, driving alignment on standards and future-ready architectures.
His consulting spans spectrum valuation, R&D governance, private network design, and regulatory advisory. Roberto holds advanced degrees in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and Valparaiso University.
Based in the Chicagoland area with his wife and daughter, Roberto is a lifelong fan of Chicago sports—especially the Cubs and the Bears. Whether advising on RIC development, utility modernization, or public-private pilots, he brings executive insight, technical credibility, and strategic clarity to organizations shaping the future of wireless.
