Mike Irizarry – Strategic Advisor

Michael S. Irizarry currently serves as Chief Technology Officer for Global Telecom, where he brings decades of executive technology leadership to the company’s strategic direction across IoT, fixed wireless access, and 5G product innovation. In addition to his role at Global Telecom, Mike serves on the advisory boards of Connect5G and Ubicquia, and sits on the board of directors for ByVerTek Fiber and Sprocket Fiber.

Mike previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology and Information Officer (CTIO) at UScellular, which he joined in 2002. At UScellular, he oversaw the company’s information systems and technology as well as all wireless technology strategy, operations, and engineering. His work encompassed network build-outs, network operations, and technological advancements including 5G, Voice over LTE (VoLTE), and network expansions. Prior to joining UScellular, Mike held executive positions with Verizon, Bell Atlantic Mobile, and Paging Network, Inc.

Mike is a senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery, a member of the Executives’ Club of Chicago, a senior member of the IEEE and its communications and computer societies, and has formerly worked closely with the 6G Alliance. He has also served on the board of directors for the O-RAN Alliance, the NGMN Alliance, and UScellular.

Mike holds a Doctorate in Computer Science from Colorado Technical University, bringing deep expertise in the technologies that underpin modern wireless networks and computing systems. He also earned a Ph.D. in communications technology from Capella University. His additional credentials include a Master of Science in information management, an MBA, and a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago’s executive management program.
